Nick Uram, Psy.D. is a Senior Psychologist and Consultant with the center for CFT. Dr. Uram specializes in evidence-based psychotherapy, using mindfulness, acceptance and compassion focused methods to treat a range of problems. Dr. Uram has extensive experience treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, stress related problems, and serious mental illness. Dr. Uram’s vision for effective psychotherapy involves cultivating and honing our strengths to promote wellbeing and a life of meaning and purpose, even in the presence of significant struggle.

Dr. Uram has served as a psychologist at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 2016. During his tenure at the Washington VAMC, Dr. Uram developed a commitment to the provision and development of high quality evidence based therapies and training. In both individual and group psychotherapy context, Dr. Uram integrated cognitive and behavioral strategies with mindfulness, acceptance and compassion focused approaches, addressing severe psychological illness, including persistent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Extending a rigorous dedication to the ongoing pursuit of excellence in psychotherapy, Dr. Uram is passionate about training future psychologists and values a collaborative approach to supervision that is espoused in mutual respect, growth, quality of care, and fun. With the VAMC, Dr. Uram trained mental health professionals in the provision of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), serving as a national consultant for ACT training and education.

Dr. Uram is a counseling psychologist by training, having received his Psy.D from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA.  His research interests during graduate school were geared towards exploring the therapeutic relationship dynamics between military affiliated clientele and civilian mental health practitioners. Dr. Uram completed his pre-doctoral internship at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center in West Palm Beach, FL (2015-2016) where he specialized in trauma, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and substance use disorders. Dr. Uram completed a special populations postdoctoral fellowship with an emphasis in SMI and Geropsychology at the Washington DC VA Medical Center (2016-2017). He then transitioned into the role of Local Recovery Coordinator for the Washington DC VA where he helped advocate for and implement recovery-oriented systems of care in the greater VA system.

Dr. Uram identifies as a functional contextualist and demonstrates a practice orientation that is rich in mindfulness, compassion, and flexibility. 

Dr. Uram values a collaborative, person-centered approach in therapy and is trained in a variety of methods to tailor to meet your individual needs. These methods include the following:

Dr. Uram is a licensed psychologist in Maryland and has a pending license in New York. During the pandemic period, his Maryland license allows for practice throughout the USA.
