Dr. Paul Gilbert
Please Join Us for a 4 Day/3 Night Intensive Training Retreat in Mindfulness & Compassion Focused Therapy, with a team of internationally known expert trainers including: CFT Founder Dr. Paul Gilbert, Dr. Dennis Tirch, Dr. Laura Silberstein-Tirch, Dr. Russell Kolts, Dr. Chris Irons, and several of the world's top compassion psychologists. We are also glad to announce that our friend, ACT co-founder Dr. Kelly Wilson will be sharing a special guest presentation.
Over 4 days and 3 evenings, we will explore some of the deepest trainings in these methods yet presented in the US. This retreat will allow you to learn compassion focused imagery, meditation and evidence based psychotherapy techniques from the inside out, through intense engagement.
Whether you are completely new to mindfulness and compassion based practice, or you are wishing to deepen your work into advanced territory, this gathering is meant for you. The science of meditation, evidence-based psychotherapy, and the motivation of great compassion for ourselves and others will come together in this week of shared practice and learning.
Dr. Dennis Tirch
This is a rare opportunity to share an expansive and meaningful training retreat with the founder of Compassion Focused Therapy, Dr. Paul Gilbert and friends. Set in a private facility in the lower Hudson Valley, just 16 miles outside of Manhattan, this immersive training involves personal practice and advanced psychotherapy skill development.
Dr. Laura Silberstein-Tirch
You will learn the scientific roots of compassion, mindfulness and CFT in a "user-friendly" and engaging style. An "inside out" approach will allow you to systematically explore ways to train your own mind in greater wisdom, compassion and mindfulness. From this place of deep personal experience and intellectual knowledge, you will be well prepared to share this approach to alleviating suffering and personal liberation with your clients, students and others.
Dr. Russel Kolts
Our experiential program will run from 10 AM to 4 PM each day, Thursday through Sunday. In the evenings, we will enjoy academic talks and clinical trainings from some amazing compassion scientists and clinical experts including:
- Dr. Marcela Matos, one of the world's leading compassion researchers (Portugal)
- Dr. Nicola Petrocchi, internationally known expert in experiential compassion training (Italy)
- Dr. Yotam Heineberg, leading Stanford University researcher of modular compassion skills training (USA)

Lodging and Food Information: The above tuition fee does not include food and lodging for this retreat. We have an arrangement with a local hotel for a discount rate. The Holiday Inn in Orangeburg, NY is offering us a discount rate of approximately 105.00 per evening. Their facility is 2 miles away from the venue, and we will be arranging shuttles and transportation to and from the location.
The code for the hotel registration is CMF. You can book it directly from their website by clicking here
Their are other places to stay nearby. For example, the "Time Hotel" is 5 miles away in Nyack, is more of a “boutique” hotel, and their rates should be about 150.00 per evening.
Dr. Nicola Petrocchi
We will have coffee and a continental breakfast for you at the retreat, and there will be snacks & beverages to purchase throughout the conference on-site. For those who would wish to have meals at the venue with the group, the Union Arts Center has arranged for a meal plan so that people can maintain as much of a “retreat” like experience as possible. Lunch & Dinner packages are available for $160 and include lunch for Thursday, Friday Saturday & Sunday and Dinner on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. You can email Angela at angela@uacny.com to arrange this. She will then send you a link prepay.

There are several nature walks and restaurants near the venue and just 10 minutes walk from Sparkill, you can find the village of Piermont, which has a wide range of food, entertainment and art options, too. If you arrange transportation into nearby Nyack, you will find an interesting Hudson Valley village with a lot of cultural life. Furthermore, we are going to be very near to NYC, so if you are traveling in, you might want to schedule some time to enjoy New York, or the lower Hudson Valley!

Travel: The closest airport is likely Newark, NJ, which is about an hour away. There is bus service into Sparkill, right near the facility. Also, there are trains into Tarrytown, NY and other nearby locations, too, which have subsequent buses to the venue and near the hotels.
Despite the stellar lineup that has agreed to join us, we at The Center for CFT want you to know that this retreat is ultimately a labor of love, and a “mom and pop” operation for the retreat, so feel free to be in touch with me at any time to help make your experience work. - DT
